Manufacturing index ignites (highest since 2002)

Manufacturing index rips

I looked here at the detailed labour force figures last year which showed that manufacturing employment might be lifting, adding well over 100,000 jobs year-on-year.

Not a universally popular point, it appears.

Nevertheless, AIG's Manufacturing Index exploded 8.1 points higher to an outlandish 59.3 in January.

A figure of above 50 denotes expansion, and this was the fifth consecutive such result, being the highest reading since all the way back in 2002.

Strong expansion on the employment sub-index there too.

Good.
